So…uh…hi! It’s been awhile, eh? When I say that the past three years since I’ve posted here have been an absolute whirlwind, I mean it.
When Twitter gasped its last dying breath and became X, I used it as an opportunity to get away from the development world for a while and literally went and touched grass. My kids were growing up way too fast and I didn’t want to miss a moment if I could help it. Now my oldest is in 5th grade and my youngest is in 2nd. Like I said: a whirlwind.
When I last posted, I wrote about my dream of opening a real, brick-and-mortar yarn store in my small town. Now it’s been nearly two years since Wool & Whimsy opened its doors, and I’m honestly having the best time!

My unexpected favorite part about owning a yarn shop has been providing a sort of sacred third space for a lovely group of ladies (and occasionally a few fellas!) to gather every Saturday morning to work on their knitting and crochet projects. What started as a collection of mostly-strangers has turned into a great group of friends who will constantly go out of their way to help one another. They swap farm fresh eggs, flower seeds, yarn, stories, moral support…the list goes on. It’s amazing.
Usually our conversation is light, but occasionally it veers into topics like the rise of fascism and the death of the American empire. There’s an undercurrent of yearning for a new world and a new way of living, and it leaves me feeling hopeful.
With everything going on in my life, YarnBuddy took a back seat for a while. However, I’m pleased to announce that YarnBuddy 2.4 will be out before the end of the month, and will bring a fresh new icon that can switch for Dark Mode, new interactive widgets, Live Activity support, iPhone Duo interface support, and lots of stability improvements, bug fixes, and other minor features that will make the day-to-day experience of using it much better. There’s also much more to come.
I’m not going to make any promises about posting more regularly, but I do hope to stay more on top of the latest Apple announcements. These days I spend most of my social media time on Threads (@becky.whimsy), though I may try to start posting on Mastodon again. I hope you all are well and I’m hoping to catch up on some of the awesome indie app releases that I’ve missed in the past few years!
